Tasting Notes
The 2012 REININGER Malbec possesses nice acidity accompanied by medium tannins that will permit this wine to cellar a bit longer than some of our previous vintages. A beautiful deep, lush purple/garnet color announces the “pour” which carries scents of black raspberry, black cherry, and sandalwood with a hint of eucalyptus. Its loamy character, though pronounced, isn’t as rustic as in the past allowing for a stroke of finesse. Black raspberry and pomegranate dominate the palate while cherries and a blackberry or two add a touch of complexity. A hint of smoky vanillin creeps in with an occasional appearance of blueberry and violet that are reminiscent of our syrah. Pair our Malbec with buffalo (my favorite), lamb burgers or grass fed beef, and roasted vegetables. Think cumin, coriander, rosemary and smoke. – Chuck Reininger, Winemaker
