Tasting Notes
Once again we harvested our Birch Creek Vineyard Semillon on the early side of ripeness to obviate the common practice of blending a higher acid grape (typically Sauvignon Blanc) to achieve proper balance. The result is a rare 100% Walla Walla Semillon experience with accentuated varietal character obtained by fermenting in stainless steel with no malolactic fermentation.  A luminous yellow-verdant tinge intimates its time of harvest. The nose brings forth an intriguing weave of late summer native grasses, caraway and clover honey. There’s an understated richness with a slight lanolin texture that follows focused layers of lemongrass, honeydew melon and clover, and a mineral character of slate and loam, all balanced with a lemony acidity.  -Chuck Reininger, Winemaker
