Mr. Owl's Red

2016Mr. Owl's Red

Pepper Bridge, Seven Hills & XL

When the Reininger children were young, they had difficulty pronouncing the name of the man who began working in the winery’s cellar in 1999. The children would call him “Mr. Owl!” In 2002, Raul Morfin became our Assistant Winemaker and Chuck crafted the first Mr. Owl’s Red as a thank you to all of Raul’s hard work.

It wasn’t until 2008 that REININGER released another Mr. Owl’s Red. Since 2008, Raul has taken his favorite grapes from each vintage to create a special blend.

Our Mr. Owl's Red is currently sold out. To guarantee access to this wine, please join our wine club.

Tasting Notes

Mr. Owl’s Red is a tribute to Raul, our Assistant Winemaker, whoo is responsible for the blending of this wine.

Mr. Owl is always jamm’n, working deliberately and efficiently. Speaking of jam, the 2016 Mr. Owl’s Red delivers a punch of dark, jammy-brambly fruit to the nose with a hit of floral, sweet spice. The Owl’s first shot to the mouth delivers a fistful of fruit dominated by black cherry, blackberry and plum that dances around the ring on a mat of medium chalky tannins. As the round continues, the Owl flexes its wings to emphasize its muscular cherry flavor. A glancing blow of wood spice finishes off this contender leaving a long, lingering taste of cherry and earthy loam.  ~Chuck Reininger, Winemaker
